Playground addition helps ease plight for kids at shelter

When Kendra finally decided to take her two young children and escape the beatings, she worried that her kids would have a hard time accepting a new home at Shelter Our Sisters.

Her 6 year old son kept silent throughout the ride to the emergency shelter.  But when he saw the house, he said, "Cool, Mommy, they have a playground! Can we play?"

The shelter hopes that a newly designed outdoor nature playground, unveiled at a ceremony on Thursday, will offer the same comfort to children of the battered women that arrive there seeking help from across North Jersey.
